So yesterday I left work early to get three vaccinations. My right arm still hurts and I can’t lift it higher than my shoulder… but that might also be in combination with the boxing class I took on Monday. BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOP. It’s really hard take my shirt on/off when I try to change. Or reach for cups in the kitchen cabinets.

"But it seemed to me that this was the way we all lived: full to the brim with gratitude and joy one day, wrecked on the rocks the next. Finding the balance between the two was the art and the salvation."

"To hang on from day to day and from week to week, spinning out a present that had no future, seemed an unconquerable instinct, just as one’s lungs will always draw the next breath so long as there is air available."

"It struck him that in moments of crisis one is never fighting against an external enemy but always against one’s own body. Even now, in spite of the gin, the dull ache in his belly made consecutive thought impossible. And it is the same, he perceived, in all seemingly heroic or tragic situations. On the battlefield, in the torture chamber, on a sinking ship, the issues that you are fighting for are always forgotten, because the body swells up until it fills the universe, and even when you are not paralyzed by fright or screaming with pain, life is a moment-to-moment struggle against hunger or cold or sleeplessness, against a sour stomach or an aching tooth."

1984 by George Orwell

"Well, it’s like you’re way out in the ocean alone and you’re paddling, and you see people on the shore, but they’re getting farther and farther away. And you struggle because it’s natural. Then your mind wanders back to everything normal. What am I gonna fix for dinner? Did I lock the back door? And then you just get so tired, you just give in and hope you go straight down."

Joyce, Mad Men
